The Saint Petersburg Jewish Welfare Center Hesed Avraham was established by St. Petersburg Jewish community in 1993 with the assistance of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (Joint).

The values of Hesed Avraham
St. Petersburg Jewish Welfare Center Hesed Avraham provides services to the elderly, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable members of the St. Petersburg Jewish community. «Hesed Avraham» works to develop the social services sector and to deliver social services to St. Petersburg residents in need.
Our Mission:
- To assure members of the St. Petersburg Jewish community that they will receive help from Hesed when in need.
- To make social services available to all residents of St. Petersburg.
VOLUNTEERISM is a fundamental part of the Jewish tradition. To us, this means that our programs are operated with the help of volunteers (of whom there are approximately 900 in our Center).
YIDDISHKEIT (Jewish self-consciousness) means that we try to provide help in the spirit of the Jewish tradition, to incorporate elements of the Jewish culture into everything we do. Yiddishkeit is a way of bringing Jews back to their cultural roots and of reviving the Jewish community in our city.
«Hesed Avraham» is an important part of the Jewish COMMUNITY, and allows the community to help those who are in need. We are open to all members of the community and are ready to partner with all Jewish organizations. Revitalization and development of the St. Petersburg Jewish community is one of our organization’s goals.
Hesed Avraham helps the most socially vulnerable elderly Jews with meager income in the following ways:
- Food Support programs
- Medical programs
- Home Care programs
- Medical and Social Rehabilitation
- Emergency Aid Fund of Hesed Avraham
- Cultural programs
- Volunteers
We are proud that:
- The “army” of Hesed volunteers makes up the impressive number of about 900 people.
- The total number of clients who were served in 2010 comes up to 15 000 people.
The Saint Petersburg Jewish Welfare Center Hesed Avraham actively cooperates with Administration of St. Petersburg and Regional services.
